The MIDI To Gate Converter is a simple to use utility module. It allows you to easily use your MIDI equipment to control the timing in your modular system. It features eight outputs with LED indicators, a Trigger/Gate switch, a master reset button and a DIP switch to select MIDI channel.
This module was designed to be built on a limited budget with minimal wiring (only two wires!). It is comprised of two PCBs and a pre-programmed microcontroller. The TOP PCB is for all of the ICs and power supply connection. The BOTTOM PCB is for all the jacks, LEDs and switches. The only BOTTOM PCB right now is set up for Eurorack using 3.5mm jacks and fits in an 8HP space. The documentation contains enough information for people in non-Eurorack formats to create their own BOTTOM PCBs. The circuit is designed to work with multiple power supply ranges.
For complete descriptions of the way the module is used, and how to build it, including schematics and parts list; download this PDF file.
Boards are available now. Price for 2 PCB/ 1 PIC set is $26.
For just the top PCB and PIC the csot is $18
Unfinished eurorack
panels are available for this project, they are 8HP and cost $8 each.
There is
more information here about panels. If you're interested in drilling your own panel for
this project, feel free to use my
drill guide. That image should be printed at 300dpi for proper
scaling.
